Campbell earns degree despite fighting cancer

Christie Campbell graduated from The University of Texas at Austin College of Education with a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology and a minor in applied learning and development.

Ceremonies were held in Austin on Friday, May 18.

Campbell, a 1998 graduate of Port Aransas High School, has battled neuroblastoma, a cancer most commonly found in male Caucasian babies or children, since being diagnosed in the fall of 2002. She was the guest speaker at the first Port Aransas Relay for Life in April 2006.

She is continuing to take treatments and is working part-time as a nanny.

Campbell is the daughter of Vicki Nelson of Osage City, Kan. Her guardians from eighth grade through high school were Jimmy and Juanita Slagle of Port Aransas.
