Raffle ticket to be drawn Saturday

Still available Tickets for the painting, 'Coast Guard Rescue', are on sale through Friday, June 9. All proceeds benefit the Port Aransas Preservation and Historical Association. Artist Flint Reed of Port Aransas created the colorful 12-inch by 16-inch oil on canvas from a black and white photo from the PAPHA archives. Raffle tickets cost $10 each or five for $40 and are available for purchase at Mustang Island Art Gallery, 2222 State Hwy. 361.
Time is winding down to purchase a raffle ticket from the Port Aransas Preservation and Historical Association (PAPHA).

The raffle will be held Saturday, June 9, for the Flint Reed oil painting, "Coast Guard Rescue". All proceeds will go to the PAPHA museum fund drive.

Tickets will be sold up until the drawing to be held at Reed's business, Mustang Island Art Gallery.

Reed used an old black and white photo of a small United States Coast Guard boat in the late 1940's from the PAPHA archives to create a colorful 12-inch by 16-inch oil on canvas painting.

Raffle tickets are $10 each or five for $40, and are available at the gallery, 2222 State Hwy. 361. Tickets also may be obtained at the Family Center IGA this weekend as PAPHA volunteers continue to sell t-shirts, totes, posters, photos and memberships to raise money to move the Mercer house to start a museum for the town.

PAPHA has been deeded the house, an early 1900s kit house, with the provision that it be moved.

"The money generated from the painting donated by Reed and all the sale days at the Family Center IGA are bringing us closer to the move," said grant chairman and board member Betty Bundy.

Donations may be made at the American Bank in Port Aransas, mailed to PAPHA fund drive, P.O. Box 677, Port Aransas, TX 78373, or made on the PAPHA Web site, www.portausa.com, where other photos and PAPHA items may be purchased.

"PAPHA has until August to move the house or it will be torn down," Bundy said. "Every donation helps and is appreciated," she said.

PAPHA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and all donations are tax-deductible.
