PAPHA raffles painting as a museum fundraiser

Would you like to own an original Flint Reed oil painting or historical themed items? The chance to do both is available as the Port Aransas Preservation and Historical Association (PAPHA) continues to work at raising money for a museum.

Artist Flint Reed of Port Aransas has created a painting to be raffled. Proceeds will go to PAPHA, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

It is on display at Reed's gallery, Mustang Island Art Gallery, 2222 State Hwy. 361, until the drawing that will be held Saturday, June 9, at 9 p.m.

Reed used an old black and white photo of a small United States Coast Guard boat in the late 1940's from the PAPHA archives to create a colorful painting. The painting is a 12-inch by 16-inch oil on canvas.

Raffle tickets cost $10 each or five for $40 and are available for purchase at the gallery. Tickets also may be obtained by contacting PAPHA board members Betty Bundy at 749-3406, Nancy Phillips at 749- 0321, Pam Greene at (361) 443-4683 and Rick Pratt at 749-3193.

PAPHA members will be selling tickets and other historical items at the Family Center IGA, 418 S. Alister St. through the night of the drawing. Volunteers will be at the IGA Saturday and Sunday, April 14 and 15, Fridays and Saturdays, April 27 and 28, May 11 and 12, and June 8 and 9. The table also will be manned Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, May 26-28. Volunteers still are needed to help sell. Anyone able to help may contact Betty Bundy at ggbun7@centurytel.net, or by phone at 749-3406 or (361) 318-9552.

Additional items for sale are a historic 2007 calendar with pictures suitable for framing for $5; t-shirts with sepia-toned historical photos for $15-$18, big tote bags with a sepia-toned historical photo for $12, and posters with a painting of the Mercer house from the first annual Old Town Festival.

Items and information on PAPHA, along with membership and fund drive information, also are available on the PAPHA Web site, www.portausa.com.
