Marlins learn from loss, sock it to Woodsboro 16-14 on the road

Port Aransas High School's Marlin baseball team won a hard-fought district game, 16-14, in Woodsboro on Monday, March 26.

The win followed a tough loss to Falls City on the home field.

"The kids fought hard. We tried to give it away, but pulled it out with a win," said Coach Brian Flack.

Ryan Phillips came in with bases loaded, and only gave up one run.

Christian Collins retired six out of seven batters he faced from the mound.

Cody Collins capped the night from centerfield with a running catch in the right field gap where he collided with teammate Zack Merrill, but held on to the ball. It was "a great play," according to Flack.

"If we could ever play with intensity for seven innings, I don't know how good these kids could be," Flack added.

Judging by the outcome of the Woodsboro game three days later, the Marlins learned from their loss Friday, March 23, when Falls City visited.

It wasn't the Marlins' night as Falls City didn't make a mistake and executed all their basic plays, going home with a 14-5 win.

Flack said the team is working on making the routine plays to turn things around.
