Banquet to kick off spring sports slated
      A banquet to kick off the spring sports season will be held Wednesday, Feb. 28. A backup date of Monday, March 5, has been set in the event the Lady Marlin basketball team advances to the state tournament. In either case, the banquet will be at 6:30 p.m. upstairs at Port Aransas High School.

      The weather gods smiled on the 11th annual Winter Old-Lympics Tennis Tournament, bathing the event in sunny skies and moderate temperatures on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 17 and 18. Men's, women's and mixed doubles were played by partners whose ages added up to 100 or more.

Rawe completes half-marathon
      A 28-year-old mother of two who is anything but an athlete, just completed a half-marathon and is training for a full marathon. Dianna Rawe, 28, said her employer, Karen Jones, a runner, and Jones' friends, Jana Snow, Kristi Longanecker and Tonya May, also runners, encouraged her to do it.

Lady Marlins roll on!

      The Port Aransas High School Lady Marlins rolled past the Shiner Lady Comanches, 57-35, gaining some redemption while taking the area championship on Friday, Feb. 16, at Port Lavaca High School. Last year, the Lady Marlins were upset to lose to Harper High School at the area round.
