Record marlin on the fly
Port Aransan Jimmy Gates, kneeling at left, was part of a team that set a new International Game Fishing Association fly-fishing record. Enrico Capozzi, kneeling at right, reeled in this 104-pound blue marlin on 12-pound tippet line fishing aboard his boat, The Spirit of Pilar. The marlin was landed after a two-hour fight in waters off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The previous record in this line class was 60 pounds. The boat, on which Gates, a Port Aransas charter captain, was a mate, also won the prestigious "Gift" offshore fly tournament out of Quepos, Costa Rica.
