FISHING REPORT This past week brought sun, warmer weather and clearer water, which added up to, better catches for most. A 77-pound spinner shark caught on the Kingfisher with Capt. Fred Hedemann was the big catch out of Deep Sea Headquarters this week. Limits of shark and kingfish were caught on 8-hour trips, and anglers on 12-hour trips reeled in limits of shark, kingfish and vermilion snapper, Rick Laros reported. Fishermen on the Tuesday state water snapper trips on the Gulf Eagle netted red snapper. The Offshore Adventures boat was in dry dock last week but is back in business now, said Mary Heimann. Bay anglers brought in "beautiful trout, up to 27-inches," she said. Live shrimp, crab and sea lice lured big black drum in the channel and redfish in bays. Waters cleared leading up to more speckled trout being caught on the south jetty using green worms, said Sharon Keehlisen of Woody's Sports Center. Live and dead shrimp are drawing limits of sheepshead on both jetties. Pompano is being caught in the surf and whiting off piers. Offshore kingfish, shark, wahoo and amberjack are being caught. Monday Winter Texan trips are pulling in limits of kingfish and vermilion and lane snapper, said Martin Harris at Fisherman's Wharf. Red snapper limits are being caught on state water trips. Offshore, kingfish, amberjack, lane and vermilion snapper are being caught. Anglers using the Jetty Boat are hauling in limits of sheepshead, speckled trout up to 28-inches, slots off the north jetty and over-sized redfish at the end of the north jetty. Ryan Reagan of Dolphin Dock reported lots of blackfin and a few yellowfin tuna caught. Triggerfish, barracuda, amberjack and rainbow runners were caught, along with limits of Atlantic sharpnose shark and kingfish. State water trips garnered red snapper and a few redfish.
