Whitney scores her 3,000th point as Lady Marlins win
BY DAN PARKER SOUTH JETTY REPORTER

Shooting for three … THOUSAND! When Whitney Williams made this shot, it was the 3,000th point she had scored in her career playing basketball for the Port Aransas High School Lady Marlins. Williams is a senior who is in her fourth year playing on the varsity team.
Whitney Williams scored a landmark 3,000th career point, but other Port Aransas High School Lady Marlins players shined too when the team whipped the Woodsboro Lady Eagles, 80-35, on Friday, Jan. 26.

"The girls played well, especially in our pressure defenses," said Randy Henderson, coach of the Lady Marlins. "Our three-point shooting was very solid as well. Kathy Ashley and Sarah Pate really sparked us with their outside shooting."

"Lia Phillips was very active during her minutes," Henderson said. "She and Leah Matthews led us in assists with 7 and 5 respectively. Combined with Alyssa Crawford'4 assists, that is 16 assists from the point guard position. That makes their coach very happy."

While Williams' achievement of scoring her 3,000th point was big and deserves a lot of congratulations, the Lady Marlins now must focus as team on the playoffs, Henderson said.

"I think we are playing well right now, and I would like to see that continue through the post season," Henderson said.

The team had a district record of 6-0 after the win at Woodsboro.
