Marlins lose by three; Sawyer scores 17 points
BY DAN PARKER SOUTH JETTY REPORTER

Woodsboro game Clockwise, from top: Port Aransas High School Marlins guard Charlie Walker goes up for a shot in a game at Woodsboro on Friday, Jan. 26; forward Matt White (No. 33) flies higher than an Eagle - a Woodsboro Eagle, anyway; and Jason Ardoin (right) and Matt White cage an Eagle.
The Port Aransas High School Marlins came close to beating the Woodsboro Eagles, but an off night of shooting by the Marlins prevented a win.

The Eagles won, 45-42, on Friday, Jan. 26, at Woodsboro.

The Marlins missed 10 lay-ups and went 9-18 from the free throw line. "When you do that, you aren't going to win," said Mark Spencer, coach of the Marlins.

A bright note: Marlins post Drake Sawyer had his best game of the year, scoring 17 points. "We stayed in the game because of his efforts," Spencer said.

The Marlins had a district record of 2-2 when the game was over. Woodsboro was tied for the district lead at 3-1. POINTS BY QUARTER PA 5 11 8 18 42 WB 9 11 6 19 45 SCORING: REID COPELAND, 4; CHARLIE WALKER, 5; SAM BURT, 3; CODY COLLINS, 2; MATT WHITE, 5; SAWYER, 17; HUNTER GLASSCOCK, 6.
