FISHING REPORT
Shark and sheepshead headline week's catches

With the start of a new year, fishing is on the mind of many living and visiting the area and catching remains constant when the wind allows boats to go out.

Fishermen are catching kingfish, shark, vermilion snapper and tuna on boat trips out of Dolphin Dock, said Mike Lockhart.

Catching is good when the boats get out of Deep Sea Headquarters, reported Rick Laros. Wind cancelled the long-range 48-hour floater trip last week but it is on the schedule for this week. Open boat trips of 8 and 12- hours have anglers reeling in limits of shark, kingfish and vermilion snapper. Bay anglers are catching black drum and a few redfish.

The Git .Er Done with Capt. Jim Harmon out of Woody's Sports Center snagged big wahoo, one weighing over 80 pounds, and kingfish last week. The boat went out 60 to 65 miles offshore. Bay anglers caught sheepshead off the jetties; black drum in the Corpus Christi Ship Channel; trout in the bays and flounder in the Lighthouse trails. Island Queen fishermen caught sheepshead, sand trout and whiting, said Sandra Fudge. Woody's will be closed until Saturday, Jan. 13.

Kingfish, Atlantic sharpnose shark, vermilion snapper and triggerfish were caught on boats last week from

Offshore Adventures, said Beverly Stapleton. Live shrimp and mullet are luring sheepshead, black drum, trout and a few keeper reds.

John McNatt at Fisherman's Wharf reported catches of king mackerel, shark and vermilion snapper by anglers out of this dock. Sheepshead, trout and redfish were brought back by anglers taking the Jetty boat to the north jetty.
