Boat lighting contest, caroling slated Dec. 8

RESIDENTS, VISITORS INVITED

The sights and sounds of Christmas - island style - will fill the harbor area of Port Aransas as residents and visitors board boats to participate in the annual Carolers Afloat and Boat Lighting Contest and Parade.

The event is a unique way to enjoy the spirit of Christmas, whether you are a professional or just enjoy singing in the shower. Just climb aboard the Scat Cat or Island Queen on Saturday, Dec. 8, pick up a songbook and sing.

Carolers are asked to be at Roberts Point Park (near the ferry landing) in the Fred Rhodes Memorial Pavilion by 6 p.m. Boats will depart promptly at 6:30 p.m. Participants and spectators will be treated to refreshments upon their return to shore.

The Boat Lighting Contest and Parade are a major part of the evening's festivities. The Port Aransas Boatmen Inc. is guaranteeing cash prizes courtesy of local businesses. Several categories are available for various boat sizes. Loan of a boat and captain for non-profit organizations interested in participating is also available. For an entry form or further information on the Boat Lighting Contest and Parade and Carolers-A-Float, call the Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce/ Tourist Bureau at (361) 749-5919 or toll-free at 800-45-COAST (26278).

Boaters from Port Aransas are encouraged to participate in the Lighted Boat Parade in Aransas Pass Saturday, Dec. 1, reciprocating their involvement in our parades for some time.
