Foundation holds basketball drawings

BY DAN PARKER SOUTH JETTY REPORTER

Having a good 3-point shot could prove to be an especially profitable skill this season at home Marlin and Lady Marlin basketball games - even for spectators.

At every home game this season, the Port Aransas Education Foundation (PAEF) and Port Aransas High School cheerleaders will hold a drawing in which the winner gets a chance at halftime to score a basket from half-court.

Contestants get only one shot. But if they sink it, they will win $100.

Tickets for the drawings will be sold for $1 each in the gym lobby during the first halves of the games.

On the nights that both the Marlins and Lady Marlins are playing at home, the half-court shot will take place during the last game of the night.

Contestants must be present when the ticket is drawn at halftime to shoot.

No students taking part in University Interscholastic athletic competition this year are eligible for the contest.

Proceeds from ticket sales go to the cheerleaders. PAEF also benefits through sponsorships of the drawings by local businesses.

PAEF is a non-profit group that raises money to distribute grants for purchase of supplies and functions not traditionally funded by school budgets. All grants go to Port Aransas teachers and other employees.

The foundation, created in 2006, distributed more than $20,000 in grants to the Port Aransas Independent School District in the spring of 2007.
