FISHING REPORT

Some docks reported fewer offshore trips with all the rain over the weekend, but others claimed good catches last week. Bay fishing has been fruitful with lots of redfish, many bull reds caught.

Lots of Spanish mackerel were caught on lures, said Luci Krause from the Pier House on Horace Caldwell Pier. Mullet and sea lice lured sharks and redfish. Several of the reds were over-sized.

A 41-inch redfish was reeled in from the bay an angler out of Dolphin Dock, according to Sandy Martin. She reported "hard hitting on sand trout and reds" in the bays. Offshore, anglers are catching dorado, shark, wahoo, red and vermilion snapper and blackfin tuna.

Greg Brown of Deep Sea Headquarters said fishing has been "very, very good with an excellent mix of fish". The biggest catch was a 63pound wahoo. Kingfish, red snapper, dolphin, blackfin tuna and Atlantic sharpnose shark also were caught.

A 70-pound sandbar shark headlined at Offshore Adventures, reported Beverly Stapleton. Anglers on the Adventurer pulled in limits of red snapper, lane snapper, vermilion snapper, kingfish and triggerfish. Private charters brought in red and vermilion snapper, shark and blackfin tuna. Limits of redfish and trout were reeled in from the bays. Baits used were mullet, live shrimp and piggy perch.

Shark, dorado, red snapper and kingfish were the catches on boats out of Woody's Sports Center, according to Gwen Montgomery. Fishermen on the Island Queen caught small shark, bull reds, gafftop, whiting and sandtrout.

Anglers taking the Jetty Boat to go to the north jetty caught redfish, trout and pompano, said John McNatt of

Fisherman's Wharf. A 70-pound wahoo, lots of grouper and kingfish, red, lane, vermilion and dog snapper, ling and shark were caught. Catches on one boat included a red grouper, two gag grouper and two scamp grouper.
