Family fun set Saturday
Corral your children and drive, bike or walk to the Family Fun Festival Saturday, Sept. 29.
Fun for all ages is set from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Jerry McDonald ball field, next to Community Presbyterian Church, 113 S. Alister St.
Each child attending will be given 20 free tickets that may be used for any activity or food. After the 20 tickets are used, more may be purchased.
Activities include moonwalks, an extreme obstacle course, a rock climbing wall, face painting, crafts tables, food, an exhibit of sea turtles from the Animal Rehabilitation Keep, Port Aransas fire trucks and crafts. Prizes may be won at games including golf, fishing, bowling, marble drop, water gun shoot, casting challenge, balloon stomp, toy walk, pie plate throw, and spud knockers. Photos with a turtle or on the fire truck will be taken for a fee and printed at the event. A super dunk tank with people you want to dunk, including Port Aransas Independent School District officials and principals, along with other island residents, is expected to be a big draw, said festival director Gail Swenson.
The Community Presbyterian Church and community volunteers will conduct the annual event.
Organizers solicited donations from community members, businesses and individuals for the event to make the event affordable for all families.
All money raised will be used to help at the Joint Effort Leisure Ministry (JELM) Center for winter activities.
"The JELM Center provides socializing, learning and fun activities all winter for our visitors and residents. Although we hope to raise some money for the JELM Center, our main objective is to allow families, residents and visitors to enjoy each other in a fun, safe environment," Swenson said.
