MEET 'DUET' PLAYWRIGHT AT RECEPTION

Patrons of the Port Aransas Community Theatre will be treated to a meet and greet with the playwright of the upcoming world premier of "Duet".

A reception for Rebecca MacLean will be held on opening night, Thursday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m., at the rehearsal hall of the theater.

MacLean, of New York City, also will be available after the first performance for more socializing.

Champagne and snacks will be served at the reception.

Performance dates are Thursday though Saturday, Sept. 20-22, Sept. 27-29, Oct. 4-6, with an Oct. 7 matinee. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. each evening, and the Sunday matinee starts at 2:30 p.m., at the theater, 2327 State Hwy. 361.

Tickets are $15.

"Duet" is an original romantic comedy set in Houston at the turn of the millennium. The plot revolves around the star singer of a church choir and her quest for romance and a career in the opera arena.

The storyline involves a new church choir director with whom the star singer in the choir immediately falls in love. He in turn falls in love with her voice. The director, having a connection with an opera company, arranges an audition for the singer. The singer ends up with an opera contract and a new boyfriend in a handsome, young tenor.

Alan Gardiner-Atkinson will direct this production.

Cast members are Debra Midget as Carla Boothby, choir singer; Bill Johnson as Jason Jett, choir director; Misty Hamm as Janie; Eric Hawes as the casting director; Pepper Pendzinski as Mrs. Boothby; Bob Erickson as Rev. Phillips; Michael Christian as Tony, and Desiree Noriega, who will play several parts.
