Appraisal board volunteers sought for Port Aransas

Time is running out if you'd like to try to make a difference in Port Aransas property appraisals.

Both the Port Aransas ISD and the City of Port Aransas are looking for volunteers to serve on the Nueces County Appraisal District board. The appraisal district sets property values throughout the county, including Port Aransas, where property values have been skyrocketing.

Nominations for Place 6 on the board are voted on by the Calallen, Flour Bluff, Port Aransas, Tuloso-Midway and West Oso ISD boards of trustees as well as the Port Aransas city council. However, if the Port Aransas and Flour Bluff school boards can agree with the city on a candidate, those votes would be enough to carry the ballot.

The appraisal sistrict board meets once a month; there is no pay for serving as a board member.

Anyone interested in serving should get in touch with Port Aransas ISD Superintendent Billy Wiggins at 749-1205 as soon as possible. The matter is on the school board's agenda for tonight, Thursday, Sept. 13, and may also be on the city council agenda next Thursday, Sept. 20.
