      As we begin a new school year, we begin with a feeling of renewal. To some extent that is true of every school year, but this year seems to be different. PAISD is on the cutting edge of providing academic excellence for all students. We are not only feeling renewed as we enter the year, but we are enthusiastically anticipating working with every child who enters our doors.

Inspired
      Carrie Dulaney with sons, Aidan Dulaney, 7, and Cade Dulaney, 4, all of Austin, hold up a nice trout caught Monday, Aug. 13. It was caught while fishing at the very northwest rock of the jetties. They were visiting the boys' grandparents, Mike and Sue Dulaney of Port Aransas and Corpus Christi. The kids fishing tournament held the previous weekend inspired the fishing.

Overall first
      The Port Aransas Swim Team poses with trophies, as they ended the season with the Corpus Christi Aquatics Department league in first place overall. The team was undefeated at all dual meets. Coach Nana Ward is planning to hold stroke and turn clinics during the school year so the team will be ready to start in April for next summer.

Cross country team competes at season opening track meet
      Port Aransas High School's cross country team members shed some of that summer-time weight gain at the season's opening track meet hosted by Corpus Christi Moody High School on Saturday, Aug. 25. The advantage of competing on the bayfront at Cole Park was lost without the usual seabreeze to cool the runners.
