Craddick may be punching bag
      Rep. Jim Pitts, a former ally of Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick, has the best name for how Craddick thinks of his position: "a divine speakership." Craddick, speaker since 2003, staved off an effort to remove him at the end of the regular session in May, with an argument that sounded like it came out of Catch-22.

Plan now for second ferry landing
      As the city begins to look at possible uses for the 67 acres it owns along the Corpus Christi Ship Channel, a potential site for a secondary ferry landing should be explored. Certainly there are environmental and economic considerations involved in such a project.

Sharing water with jaws
      We had left Port Aransas several years ago and flown directly to Martha's Vineyard. We were guests of the lady who owned the radio station for which I work, Lady Bird Johnson. The house she had leased each summer for a number of years overlooked a large beautiful bay. The area was suffering from an historic heat wave when we arrived.
