Old Horace Caldwell surf
This photo of an unidentified surfer at Horace Caldwell Pier in Port Aransas was shot in 1977, three years before Hurricane Allen heavily damaged the old wood pier. The pier was replaced by the concrete pier in place today. This photo will be part of a new exhibit opening on Friday, June 1, at the Texas Surf Museum, 309 N. Water St., Corpus Christi. Titled "Surfin' Thru the '70s," the exhibit will feature more than 50 1970s-era photos of Texas surfers, plus vintage surfboards, Texas surf films from that decade and more. Some of the photos, footage and surfboards came from Port Aransas. Admission is free.
