Spring time at middle school
      As the school year draws to an end, there is a flurry of activity here at Brundrett Middle School. Actually, much of the year in middle school is a flurry of activity; in the spring it just intensifies. Here are some of the highlights and the reflections these events bring forth.

Music fills the air
      A Port Aransas Independent School District-wide band concert was held Thursday, May 17, in the Port Aransas High School gymnasium. The Brundrett Middle School sixth-grade band played first. The seventh/eighth grade band followed with music from 'Superman'.

Cortez chosen to receive Ford education award
      Ida Cortez of Aransas Pass was presented the Ford Salute To Education Award at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi Performing Arts Center Wednesday, May 9. Cortez is the daughter of Sylvia Cortez is facilities coordinator for the City of Port Aransas.

Pyramid of kids
      Six students perform at a talent show that Brundrett Middle School put on at the H.G. Olsen Elementary School gym on Tuesday, May 22. The pictured students, who called themselves "Fergilicious Crew," did a dance routine that ended with the students forming a human pyramid.

      Fourth-graders from H.G. Olsen Elementary School went to San Antonio to visit the Alamo Monday, May 14.

Fishy field trip
      Teachers Julie Findley and Rhonda Burger took their fifth-grade students on a field trip Thursday, May 17. It was a trip aboard the Mustang out of Woody's Sports Center. Capt. Billy Gaskins and the guides Steve Zarych and T. Joe Miguez showed them plankton, seahorses, dolphins and more. Earlier in the day the students had dissected squid and tasted calamari in class.

Living Texas history
      Fourth-graders from H.G. Olsen Elementary School went on a field trip to San Antonio to visit the Alamo Monday, May 14. The students also saw the movie, "Alamo, The Price of Freedom". The Port Aransas Education Foundation (PAEF) funded the trip for the classes of Clare Adams and Gina McKeever.

Many opportunities available to occupy kids for summer season
      Parents and guardians who have not registered their children for the Port Aransas Youth Council (PAYC) camps and many other programs offered by the Parks and Recreation Department may still do so. To register for PAYC online, go to http://cityofportaransas.org/summerpayccamp. cfm or stop by the Parks Department at 739 W. Ave. A, and register in person.

PAYC seeks workers
      Volunteers still are being sought to help with the Port Aransas Youth Council (PAYC) camp this summer. Rachael King, assistant director of the Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Department, needs "warm bodies" to help with the different PAYC activities that are held through the program during June and July.

      Port Aransas High School's National Honor Society president Minda Willner was accidentally omitted from a photo of seniors honored during the annual academic banquet. The photo was published in the May 17 edition of the South Jetty.
