Swim team registration still open
      Swimmers who missed registration for the Port Aransas Swim Team Wednesday, May 23, still have a chance to become a member. Call Nana Ward at 749-6426 as soon as possible to sign up. Registration fee for the first child is $50 and includes a team swim shirt and competition swimsuits for meets.

Little League season to end this Saturday
      The Paul Mathews Sportsmanship and the Volunteer of the Year awards will be presented, along with season trophies at the closing ceremonies for the 2007 Port Aransas Little League season. The community is invited to attend the event on Saturday, May 26. It will begin at 9 a.m. at the Port Aransas Community Park Little League ball field, 700 Clark Pkwy.

Memorial Day: Fire up the grill!

      With Memorial Day weekend upon us, the grills are fired up and the official barbecuing season begins. In the last few years, the grill has become not just a source for the main dish, but side dishes are now grilled. I love to take large slices of eggplant, zucchini, or yellow squash and brush them with olive oil and grill them a few minutes on each side.

Mean 'Greene machine' takes two race wins at CC Speedway
      Fans were on their feet, as lap after lap, Pappy Greene fought to keep the lead in the feature race at CC Speedway Saturday, May 19. Greene, of Port Aransas, held on to win the race and a trophy, despite the efforts of the track's fastest mini stock racecar, whose driver raced side by side for most of the 20-lap race.
