Milina birth announced
      William Brody Milina was born to Marilee McFadden and Roy Milina of Port Aransas. He was born at 1:19 p.m., on Sunday, April 29, 2007, at Bay Area Hospital in Corpus Christi. The child weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces and was 19.5 inches long.

      Randall and Wendy Moore of Port Aransas announce the birth of their daughter, Kali Daliene. She was born at 3:43 p.m., Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at Christus Spohn Hospital South. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces and was 21.25 inches long.

Matthews, Ramsden wed
      Lani Rose Matthews and James Wright Ramsden were married Sunday, April 1, in Jekyll Island, Ga. The couple, both formerly of Port Aransas, now reside in Spicewood. The outdoor wedding was held under oak trees by the beach. She is a 1999 graduate of Port Aransas High School and currently a veterinarian in Marble Falls. He is an officer in the Merchant Marine.

Mercy mission to Mexico completed
LOCAL VOLUNTEERS WORK AS LABORERS, DONATE TRUCK
      Betty Bundy, Sharon and Norris Stricker and Ron and Linda Skewis, all of Port Aransas, recently went on a mission trip to Mexico. The group, along with volunteers from San Antonio, first worked in Saltillo on a facility that will house future missionaries working in the area.

Winton marries Sain
      Megan Dionne Winton and Travis Emerson Sain, both of Port Aransas, were married Saturday, May 5, at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nev. The bride is the daughter of Mark Winton of Port Aransas and Kim and Chris Cothes of Oak Point. The groom is the son of Scooter and B.K. Sain of Port Aransas. She is employed by Wintons Island Candy Company.

City gains from May 2007 sales tax rebate
      Port Aransas city coffers gained from March sales reported to the state last month. Texas Comptroller Susan Combs sent May sales tax allocations of $372.6 million to Texas cities, up 8.2 percent compared to May 2006. Calendar year-to-date, city sales tax allocations are up 7.4 percent compared to the same period last year.

      The ocean going vessel Transshelf is dwarfed by two towering jack-up oil rigs it is carrying into the Gulf of Mexico. The rigs' legs will be lowered once they're in position, 'jacking up' the floor of the rig until it is stable.

Council to deal with zoning, city's comprehensive plan
      Port Aransas will get two new city council members tonight, Thursday, May 17, with no contested elections. Keith Donley won the Place 1 seat previously occupied by Beverly Charles. Charles Bujan won the uncontested race for Place 3, the seat that had been temporarily occupied by Jim Polewchak since the death of incumbent Jerry Watson.

Nesting ridley delights couple and students
      How would you feel if a turtle ambled through your bedroom? In the case of James Cantu and Natalie Pascarella, the feeling was one of delight. The couple was camped on a Mustang Island beach near Marker 25 on Tuesday morning when a Kemp's ridley sea turtle headed up the beach toward the dunes to nest.

      Life is looking brighter for one nonprofit organization in Port Aransas. Saturday, May 12, the Port Aransas Preservation and Historical Association (PAPHA) received a check for $10,000 from the Rachal Foundation in Corpus Christi.

      Today, Nick and I took a train to El Escorial, an old monastery of reddish stone, set on a hill over a valley. It used to be a sort of palace away-from-the-palace, where Madrid's royalty could retire to the countryside and watch the storks make giant nests in the bell-towers of the church.

Fall injures two workers
      One man was flown to a Corpus Christi hospital by Halo Flight helicopter and another was treated and released by Port Aransas Emergency Medical Service (EMS) workers on Friday, May 11, after they fell from a building where they were working.

First Oleander work
      Workmen start digging up Alister Street at Beach Street as part of the Oleander Street drainage project. The project, authorized by the city council out of city reserves and not as part of the November 2006 bond package, begins here because Alister Street drainage ties in to the storm sewer that runs the length of Oleander Street.

No foul play found in girl's drowning death
      Corpus Christi police said this week there appears to have been no foul play in the drowning of a 16- year-old girl on Friday, May 4, at a Mustang Island condominium. Toynell Bailey, 16, of Houston, was at the condos as part of a high school band that was in the area to participate in the next day's Buccaneer Days parade in Corpus Christi.
