Red snapper the big news on fishing front
      The opening of red snapper season on Saturday, April 21, has offshore anglers thinking about little else. They have been rewarded with plentiful catches after their long wait. Bay, surf and jetty anglers are seeing consistent catches of the usual suspects: redfish and trout.

Good start
      The opening of red snapper fishing in federal waters on Saturday, April 21, proved productive for these anglers who weighed in 21 fish, including a 7-foot, 150-pound blacktip shark. The anglers are Port Aransas Police Department dispatcher Alan Fletcher, center, his uncle, Alan Fletcher of Beeville at left, and young Fletcher's dad, Tommy Fletcher of Enid, Okla.

CCA banquet is here Saturday
      Redfish Bay Chapter, CCA Texas, will hold its annual fundraising banquet on Saturday, April 28, at 6 p.m. at the Port Aransas Civic Center. The event will include a live auction, silent auction, and raffle tickets for coastal art, fishing and hunting packages, and many other great items. The meal for the evening will be grilled fish and shrimp with all the trimmings.

Two grants for tarpon
      Saltwater-Fisheries Enhancement Association (SEA) and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department have teamed up to award the University of Texas Marine Science Institute (UTMSI) a total of $96,000 to conduct a study of the migratory movements of large adult tarpon captured in waters off the Texas coast.
