The Port Aransas High School Marlins came close to beating the Woodsboro Eagles, but an off night of shooting by the Marlins prevented a win.

The Eagles won, 45-42, on Friday, Jan. 26, at Woodsboro.

The Marlins missed 10 lay-ups and went 9-18 from the free throw line. "When you do that, you aren't going to win," said Mark Spencer, coach of the Marlins.

A bright note: Marlins post Drake Sawyer had his best game of the year, scoring 17 points. "We stayed in the game because of his efforts," Spencer said.

The Marlins had a district record of 2-2 when the game was over. Woodsboro was tied for the district lead at 3-1. POINTS BY QUARTER PA 5 11 8 18 42 WB 9 11 6 19 45 SCORING: REID COPELAND, 4; CHARLIE WALKER, 5; SAM BURT, 3; CODY COLLINS, 2; MATT WHITE, 5; SAWYER, 17; HUNTER GLASSCOCK, 6.
