Woodsboro too much for young Marlin men Woodsboro's Eagles flew into to town Monday, Dec. 11, and kept their hosts out of the winners' circle. The Brundrett Middle School Marlins fell 15 -34, and the seventh grade Marlins lost 17-25. In the eighth grade contest, Coach Brian Flack said, “The kids played a great half of defense holding Woodsboro to only 10 points.” The third quarter proved to be the undoing of that effort. “We had some breakdowns . . . and they went on a 15-0 run. It put the game out of reach,” Flack said. Mac Owens put in a 10-point effort supported by Fletcher Ray and Tanner Merrill who shot for two points apiece, and Andrew Spencer who put one point in lights. The team will host Pettus on Monday, Dec. 18. Tip-off time is 7 p.m. In seventh grade action, players “showed huge improvement with great ball movement and tough defense,” according to Flack. Getting the ball to fall in the hoop was a challenge they weren't able to overcome. “We had a lot of great looks and shots at the basket, but could only get a few to fall,” Flack said. Striking paydirt were Matt Fries with eight points, Thomas Winton with five and Connor Collins with four. The team will try to improve its scoring when Pettus visits on Monday, Dec. 18. Game time is 5 p.m. |
