Lady Marlin Blue,White teams stop Woodsboro

It was a win-win situation for Brundrett Middle School's Lady Marlins on Monday, Dec. 11.

Both the blue (eighth grade) and white (combined seventh and eighth grades) teams left the gym with wins under their belts. Woodsboro was on the short end of the blue team score, 25-5, and the white team score, 27-24.

It was a come-from-behind win for the white team that was led by Erika Witten who lit up the scoreboard with 20 points.

“Erika had a big offensive night,” said Coach Javier Mendoza. “Her teammates did a good job of feeding the ball inside.”

As a team, the Lady Marlins are making strides offensively, and doing a better job of guarding on defense, Mendoza said.

“They get better every game,” he added.

In spite of the lop-sided score, the blue team's win was just “an okay game,” Mendoza said.

“We were in a funk in the first half, and moving slow,” he said.

The second half saw the Lady Marlins kick it up a notch, playing faster and scoring 19 of their 25 points.

Defensively, the Lady Marlins put a lot of pressure on their visitors. The result was “a lot of steals that led to points,” Mendoza said.
