Dunton, Phillips finish first
Most of the course was along the beach where runners had a breeze to their backs. Runners returned to the high school on Lantana for the finish. In both girls' and boys' divisions, Port Aransas took first place. Lia Phillips finished first for the girls, while Matt Dunton was the first place finisher in the boys' division. "The girls ran extremely well as a team. Several of them set personal best times at this meet. Lia Phillips and Mary Teller both ran their best race of the year so far," said Coach Steve Reaves The team ran the meet course during practice last week, and improved their times by more than a minute. "All of the girls are working hard and improving each week, which is all I can ask of them. Our district meet is right around the corner, and that is what we are getting ready for," Reaves said. In the boys' division, both runners posted their best times of the year. "Matt ran in the 17's for his first time in high school and is really getting in good shape for district. Greg (Anderson) is settling down and running a lot better just in time for the district meet coming up," Reaves said. Both are working hard in practice and are also putting in extra time on their own. "This was a big win for Matt and a big confidence builder for him. He is really starting to figure out how to run a three-mile race and how to push his limits," Reaves said.
