Tax bills to arrive this week

Nueces County property owners or their mortgage companies should receive tax notices this week from Ronnie Canales, county tax collector.

Property owners who use tax agents also will receive tax statements.

Deadline for payment of taxes is Jan. 31, 2007. As of Feb. 1, 2007, penalty and interest will begin accumulating on unpaid tax bills.

Failure to receive a tax bill does not exempt a property owner from paying tax. Property owners who have not received tax bills by Thursday, Oct. 12, are asked to call Canales' office at (361) 888-0230.

Taxpayers who are 65 years of age or older, or who are disabled and the property described on the tax bill is the residence homestead, should contact the Nueces County Appraisal District regarding rights to postponement of payment. The telephone number is (361) 881-9978.

Taxes may be paid by credit card online at www.co.nueces.tx.us, or by telephone at 1-800-2PAYTAX.
