Miguez benefit set for Sunday

A benefit will be held Sunday, Oct. 9, to raise money for funeral expenses for the family of Capt. Shane Miguez. It will start at 5 p.m., at the Back Porch Bar, 132 W. Cotter Ave, next to Woody's Sports Center.

The dinner of fish, fries and salad will cost $7 per person.

Miguez died Monday, Oct. 2, at his home in Port Aransas. He had lived in Port Aransas for the past 13 years.

Miguez graduated from Port Aransas High School in 2000 and joined the United States Army, serving four years in the 10th Mountain Division Infantry.

Following his service, he returned home to Port Aransas and obtained his USCG Captain's license and worked as a deckhand and captain on the Island Queen charter boat.

Funds raised will be given to his father, T. Joe Miguez.
