Labor Day holiday draws crowds - click here to watch

Flying by
Two immobile old salts at Avenue G and Alister Street gaze enviously down at five highly mobile cyclists taking part in the third annual Conquer the Coast bicycle event on Saturday, Sept. 30. About 1,000 cyclists passed through Port Aransas on a 65-mile route that began in Corpus Christi and took them around Corpus Christi Bay. After a ferry ride, each cyclist proceeded down the Cut-off Road and then south down State Hwy 361. The event, sponsored by the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce, raised money for a chamber foundation that funds local leadership programs. The event also raised money for student athlete scholarships provided by the Tarpon Foundation - the main fundraising arm of the Intercollegiate Athletic Department at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
