PTO open house, meeting
Events set at elementary Tuesday

Block out a little time Tuesday night, Sept. 19, to invest in the future of Port Aransas children.

Family members and friends are invited to an open house to be held by the Port Aransas Parent-TeacherOrganization from 6:30 to 7 p.m., at H.G. Olsen Elementary School.

Volunteers are encouraged to join the PTO at a meeting from 6 to 6:30 p.m. at the school gym before the open house.

The open house will allow children to show what they have been doing since school began and provide a chance for parents to become familiar with the teachers and classrooms. Fifth graders will perform "50 Nifty United States" with music teacher Gay De Montel in the gym.

Several volunteers are needed to chair committees. While the list is long, each event comes with complete instructions and guidelines from previous chairmen. Events include the Reader's Digest fundraiser, Halloween, Valentine candy grams, the Book Fair, field day, Teachers' Appreciation luncheon and the fifth grade luncheon.

"You don't have to do it alone; working with a partner works well, too," said PTO president Michele Lorette. "Many have chosen to cochair. It makes it more fun as well as less work," she said.
