Light it up for Christmas in time for Carolers Afloat

There's not even a hint of Christmas in the air, but ready or not, here it comes.

The annual Christmas Lights Contest sponsored by the Port Aransas Garden Club will kick off a little earlier this year in time for the community to be "lit up" for the Carolers Afloat lighted boat contest and parade on Dec. 9.

Prospective contestants in each of the four categories are asked to be decorated and have their lights on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 9. Deadline to enter the contest will be

Monday, Dec. 11, and judging will be Wednesday, Dec. 13. Winners will be asked to keep their lights on through the evening of Dec. 18, and photos of winners will be published in the Dec. 21 edition of the South Jetty.

Event chairman Nancy Phillips said the categories will be the same as last year. They are residential (including individual condominium units), business, recreational vehicle/mobile home and condominium entrances.

Detailed information about entering the contest will be announced in late November.
