Safe sought for center

Got a spare safe? If so, the Port Aransas Computer Center could use it.

Computer Club president John Somers said a safe with a slot for insertions (read: "donations") would make it easier for volunteers to accept cash donations from patrons and put them in a safe place, and would eliminate the need for a club officer to be at the center every day at 4 p.m.

Somers is also looking at the break-in at the center in May, when thieves made off with some cash from donations. Since then, the center has built a stout box that is bolted to the wall, but it's not as strong as a safe would be.

They're looking for the kind of safe that can be bolted to the cement floor in the center, besides having a donation slot.

Somers pointed out that the computer center is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, so anyone who donates a safe can use it as a tax deduction.

To make a donation or to find out more about the center, call either Somers or David Bailey at the center, (361) 749-4011.
