BETTY PROCHASKA

Betty J. Fisher Prochaska of Port Aransas and Urbandale, Iowa, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, at the Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines, Iowa, from complications of a brain tumor. She was 74.

many years as Winter Texans in Port Aransas.

Prochaska was born in Minneapolis, Minn., and lived in Moorhead, Minn. with her parents, Hilding and Neva Christofferson.

In 1951, she started a 35-year career at Northwestern Bell Telephone. She worked at various job positions in several locations around Iowa and returned to Des Moines in 1977.

Prochaska was active in many functions at the Community Presbyterian Church while in Port Aransas. She sang with the CPC choir for 13 years and was a member of the Port Aransas Writing Group at the JELM Center.

In Iowa, Prochaska enjoyed volunteer work with several youth organizations. She also was instrumental in establishing the Central Iowa P. Buckley Moss Society, where she served as its first president.

Survivors include her husband, Frank, of Urbandale; a son, Bill (Deb) Fisher of Bettendorf, Iowa; a daughter, Linda (Denny) Lester of Parker, Colo.; three stepchildren, Glenn Prochaska of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Karen (Nile) Roszell of West Liberty, Iowa, and Carla Parr of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; a brother, Bill (Darlene) Christofferson of Naples, Fla; and a sister, Leona Courier of Brainerd, Minn.

Part of her ashes will be scattered off the beach in Port Aransas. The rest will be buried in the Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be made in her memory to the Joint Effort Leisure Ministry at Community Presbyterian Church at JELM P.O. Box 147, Port Aransas, TX 78373.
