Track team improves

The Class 1A Port Aransas High School's cross country teams went up against "the big boys" on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Carroll High School Cross Country Meet.

Both the Lady Marlins and the Marlins ran in the Class 4A and 5A division. As result, "We didn't place as well as a team; but it forced us as individuals to run at a faster pace," said Coach Steve Reaves.

The course at West Guth Park in Corpus Christi is one the teams compete on several times a year and will run again in two weeks for the district meet.

"All of the girls beat their times from earlier in the year when we ran here, and several of the girls posted their best times ever on this course," Reaves said.

In the boy's division, Matt Dunton and Greg Anderson both improved their times from earlier in the season.

Reaves said the Lady Marlins are still working hard, getting in shape and learning how to run a two-mile race.

Dunton "ran the best time of his career on a tough course. Each week he is improving and getting ready for

the district meet," Reaves said.         VARSITY LADY MARLINS SARAH ARMANOVS, 18TH, 13:51 LIA PHILLIPS, 19TH, 13:52 JUDY WRIGHT, 54TH, 14:54 REBECCA ARMANOVS, 61ST, 15:08 LEAH MATTHEWS, 71ST, 15:28 MARY TELLER, 74TH, 15:48 ELAINE FRANCO, 87TH, 16:44     JUNIOR VARSITY LADY MARLINS KELSEY CARTWRIGHT, 18TH, 15:39 HANNAH HANLEY, 73RD, 18:50                   MARLINS MATT DUNTON, 25TH, 17:31 GREG ANDERSON, 94TH, 21:23
