Sand, Surf Run set Oct. 21
Visitors and residents are invited to hurry - or take their time - during the 14th annual Port Aransas Sand and Surf Beach Run on Saturday, Oct. 21.
The run and walk benefit the Joint Effort Leisure Ministry (JELM) Center. It begins that Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Port Aransas High School tennis courts.
Three races make up the fundraiser. Runners have their choice of entering a 5K or a 10K race while the walking kind will stroll for two-miles.
The course is primarily the beach in Port Aransas.
Entry fee is $17 and comes with a custom-made commemorative t-shirt designed by Alicia Dreessen for the first 150 entrants. Pre-register at the Community Presbyterian Church office located at 113 S. Alister. The top six men and women in the
walk and the top three men and women in the 5K and 10K runs in the various age groups will be presented awards indigenous to Port Aransas.
Age groups are 13 and under, 14-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-45, 45- 49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70 and older.

The JELM Center, which is operated by Community Presbyterian Church, sponsors activities that benefit Winter Texans who call Port Aransas home during the fall and winter.
Activities range from trips to Mexico and San Antonio, bridge games, aerobics, tax assistance, blood pressure screenings and more.
