Hurry!

Chamber banquet ticket sales ending

Time is running out to buy tickets for the Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce annual banquet scheduled for Friday, Oct. 20.

All ticket sales are in advance because the event is catered.

While the sale of corporate tables picked up last week, individual ticket sales are lagging.

Corporate tables that seat eight sell for $500, while individual tickets for general seating are $50 each.

Highlight of the banquet will be the presentation of the 2006 Citizen of the Year. In addition, attendees will be treated to dance music by Jokers Wild. The six-piece rock/country band plays a variety of music by artists such as LeAnn Rimes, Brooks and Dunn, Steppenwolf, Patsy Cline, Garth Brooks, the Righteous Brothers, Eric Clapton and more.

The evening will begin with a social hour at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner and the program at 7:30 p.m. The Citizen of the Year award recognizes individuals for past and current service in several aspects of the community. Nominees must have a record of giving back to the community in volunteer time without expectation of personal or professional gain.

Nominations are reviewed to determine that all nominees are eligible. Selection is based on the criteria, not the number of nominations an individual receives.

Previous recipients of the Citizen of the Year Award are, starting in 1991, Dale Bietendorf, the late Lillian Graham, Mark Creighton, Una Farley, the late J.C. and Wanda Barr, Georgia Neblett, Mike Hall, Barbara Sheppard, John Thompson, the city's first responders in 2001, George Horner, Pam Greene, Betty Crawford and Charlie and Linda Zahn.
