Project Grad seeks vendors and talent
      Project Graduation is providing a venue to show off your talents and sell your crafts at its 2010 Country Fair on Saturday, April 17. The event will feature an all day fair and a Port Aransas Idol Contest. Event organizers are seeking craft vendors for the fair, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Roberts Point Park.

Pizza party!
      Restaurateur Jay Kenigsberg serves free pizza to first graders as a reward for their performances in a Read-AThon program that recently was completed at H.G. Olsen Elementary School. The pizza party was Thursday, March 4, at Seafood and Spaghetti Works. Members of the school’s first-grade classes who read at least 30 books in one month got to get in on the pizza party.

Spring Break art camp starts Monday
      It’s not too late to register for the Spring Break Youth Art Camp. The camp, for students in third through fifth grades, is being offered at the Art Center for the Islands Monday through Friday, March 15 - 19, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Marylin Cook, a master teacher at H.G. Olsen Elementary School, will direct the camp.

Cowgirl up!
      Students at Trinity-by-the-Sea Day School concluded their studies of Texas by celebrating Texas Independence with a ‘Rodeo Roundup,’ on Friday, March 5. Students and teachers dressed like cowboys and cowgirls and enjoyed a day of Texas fun. They told stories around the campfire, played rodeo games outside and ate Texas foods for snacks.

Teller and students to exhibit art
      Artist Dee Teller of Faribault, Minn. and Port Aransas will show her art and that of her students on Sunday, March 14. The show will be held at the Dunes condominiums, 1000 Lantana Drive, in units 401 and 410, from 2 to 4 p.m. Teller holds a master’s degree in studio arts and is known for her Asian brush painting.

      From left, veterans Chuck Borders, Harry Shaw and Bill Lehmann present a DVD titled ‘War Letters’ to Brundrett Middle School’s sixth-grade class on Thursday, March 4. The presentation was made in appreciation for the students’ work in creating an informational pamphlett for the Veterans’ Day program held at Port Aransas High School last year.

      The call is out to read. The Friends of the Library is challenging readers of all ages to read books for prizes during its Great Reading Race, March 13 – 28. There are four age categories for kids: kindergarten and under, grades one through three, grades four through six and grades seven through 12.

      The cast of ‘Uncle Phil’s Diner,’ an interactive musical dinner theater performance, concluded performances on Sunday, March 7. The play was presented by the youth ministry at the Community Presbyterian Church to raise funds for youth group activities.
