Marine theft unit is formed

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has formed a team of game wardens that will combat boat theft, personal watercraft theft and related fraud.

The Marine Investigations Unit part of the Law Enforcement Division’s Special Operations section will operate on a statewide basis, according to a news release issued by the TPWD.

Registration for the 30th annual Coastal Conservation Association’s (CCA) “Take a Kid Fishing” event will be on Friday, May 31, under the tent at Woody’s Sports Center. Registration starts at 5 p.m. A dinner will follow registration and is free for registered anglers and $6 per unregistered family member.

Shrimp harvesting will stop Thursday

The last day to harvest shrimp in the Gulf of Mexico until sometime in July is Thursday, May 23. The date was set by the Coastal Fisheries Division of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

The Gulf of Mexico commercial shrimp season for both Texas and federal waters will close 30 minutes after sunset. The re-opening day is still yet to be determined.
